Storefront Scarf depicts a storefront shielded by a patchwork of textiles billowing under streaks of sunlight. A small opening in the bottom left corner provides a glimpse of the garments for sale in the shop. The scarf becomes a kind of trompe-l’œil, cheekily examining how patterns shift in meaning as they traverse context and scale. “My impulse, no matter where I am, is to see the world like I’m in an anime,” says Al Qasimi, “I have to hope that the colors are as bright as they could possibly be—that the world might contain some aspects of transcendence worth paying attention to.”

Storefront Scarf is one of two limited-edition scarves created by Farah Al Qasimi on the occasion of Triple Canopy’s 2025 benefit honoring Zoe Leonard. Each scarf has a photograph by Al Qasimi printed onto polyester satin.

Farah Al Qasimi is an artist and musician. Often working with large-scale vinyl imagery and a multiplicity of photographic prints and screens, she is interested in the internet and its hierarchies of information and emotion. Her work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Tate Modern in London, and the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi. She has participated in residencies at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine, Delfina Foundation in London, and the Chinati Foundation in Marfa.
