Paradise Scarf depicts a mural of an idyllic tropical scene: lush greenery frames a cascading waterfall as a white heron flies past. On closer inspection, an interior scene comes into view:  The heron’s wings are partially covered by a wall socket, and a light switch occupies the center of the waterfall’s spray. The mural, located in a plant shop, was recently painted over.

“My impulse, no matter where I am, is to see the world like I’m in an anime,” says Al Qasimi, “I have to hope that the colors are as bright as they could possibly be—that the world might contain some aspects of transcendence worth paying attention to.”

Paradise Scarf is one of two limited-edition scarves created by Farah Al Qasimi on the occasion of Triple Canopy’s 2025 benefit honoring Zoe Leonard. Each scarf has a photograph by Al Qasimi printed onto polyester satin.
